"Sense Got Out" -
"Waynes new album grabbed me from the first listen...all the magic of those great Wayne Mason songs is still there and even more honed...a great album for 2008." Roger Marbeck - Ode Records
"I absolutely love the new Wayne Mason album and his band just truly kick arse. One of the most powerful bands to back anyone. They truly deserve their name 'the Fallen Angels" reminiscent of another great singer Gram Parsons and the Grevious Angels" Shady, Americana Show, www.radioactive.fm
MEDIA RELEASE NEWS:
Wayne Mason and his band "The Fallen Angels" will be out and about touring in 2008 to celebrate the launch of their latest CD which is out now.
Mason has written and performed on over 30 albums during his career but 'Sense Got Out' is his third "solo"album under his own name and first with his band "The Fallen Angels".
Well known as the writer of 'Nature', a song voted by APRA members as the number one song for the past 75 years in 2001, Mason believes this album has some of his best work yet, songs that seek to understand the darker emotional side of our human nature.
The title song "Sense Got Out" was a finalist in the prestigious US based International Songwriting Competition 2006, judged by some of the top musicians in the world.
Mason's songs explore the unloved, the unrequited romance, the tensions and the journey along the way....it's not all about happy endings. And then again, sometimes it is. Songs like "Last Dance (For Dreams and Hopes) and "Centreline", wistful and hopeful, a world full of possbilities. And "Plates" completes the album. It's a restful place, an ending for some, and a beginning for others.
Mason is also a dam fine boogie woogie piano player and along with his band, will raise the temperature when they rock through some fast and furious piano playing. You'll get a glimpse of this with his song "Shutters", but it's his live performance that you will appreciate his piano prowess.
The Fallen Angels are one of the hottest bands around and this is a live performance not to be missed. On stage is where Mason feels most at home, performing with passion and an intensity that's hard to ignore.
Mason has been involved in the New Zealand Music scene for the past forty years - he became a member of APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) in 1968, and has been described as a national icon and one of this countries finest songwriters. In 2002 he became a Member of the New Zealand Order of Merit, awarded for his services to the music industry.
He's been involved in some of New Zealand's most well known bands, from the Fourmyula (with five top ten hits written or co-written by Mason) through to the Warratahs (whose first hit "Hands of My Heart" was written by Mason). He has been awarded the APRA Silver Scroll for "Nature" and has been a finalist twice (once was for "Tightrope" which appears on his latest album). A number of his songs have been covered by national and international artists such as Midge Marsden, Jon Stevens, The Muttonbirds, Renee Geyer and Margaret Urlich.
Some career highlights so far - opening for Billy Joel, Johnny & June Carter Cash and touring through Europe.
'Sense Got Out' will be released through Ode Records a company first formed in 1968 and now owned by Roger Marbeck of Marbecks family music store history. 1968 was a very significant year for Mason - the year the Fourmyula decided to record their own songs (rather than cover versions) written or co-written by Mason, The Fourmyula recorded and released "Come with Me" which went to No.2 in the charts, No. 1 was "Hey Jude", they won the Battle of the Bands and became a household name.
